Abstract	Fundamental changes in the security sector of Ukraine, the growth of actual and potential threats to national security, and the necessity to implement European and Euro-Atlantic integration strategies and prospects of cooperation with NATO require improvement (reforming and development) of law enforcement. In view of that, strengthening the defense capability, reforming the overall Ukrainian security and defense sector come into question. One of the essential prerequisites for the effectiveness of military units in Ukraine is the development of the military justice system. To achieve this goal, it is essential to elaborate and to approve the viable mechanism within national and international legal systems which enables an adequate and timely prevention, detection, ceasing, investigation of crimes and criminal misdemeanors, as well as the assessment of illegal activities applying specific knowledge and skills. The purpose of the article is to analyze the previous research and to express the author’s personal opinion about prerequisites for the establishment of the State Bureau of Military Justice under the law enforcement reform agenda. The attention was paid to the development and approval of general approaches to the security sector reform taking into account the caseload of law enforcement, their place in the system of state authorities. Thus, the conclusion was drawn, that the establishment of the State Bureau of Military Justice empowered with control over all military units in Ukraine will be a crucial step in improving national security and defense sector, and will enable resolving current problems in the sphere.
